The latest game in the Batman franchise has now had its release date confirmed as October 2022 after failing to be released as originally scheduled. The original release date for the game had been announced as being in 2021 but this slipped when developers said that they needed extra time so that they could deliver the best possible experience for players. The announcement on Twitter from the Gotham Knights account reads “Gotham will always need its heroes. Suit up for an all-new adventure on 10.25.22 #GothamKnights”
The storyline of the game is that Batman is dead, and a new, expansive criminal underworld is sweeping the streets of Gotham City. Players take on the role of the Batman Family to protect the city and bring hope to its citizens. Suited up a Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood or Robin the gameplay is around making sure the cops are disciplined and the criminals are fearful. Players will have to solve mysteries to defeat notorious villains in epic confrontations. The narrative will take gamers to some of the darkest chapters in the city’s history. The finale of the game is about evolving into the new Dark Knight and saving the streets from the descent into chaos.
The game is an open-world, action role play game. It is set in the most dynamic and interactive Gotham City yet to be imagined. Players can opt for solo play or team up with another hero to patrol the city’s five boroughs. There will be an opportunity to drop in on criminal activity all over Gotham wherever it is found.
Gotham Knights will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X / S, and Xbox One.
Batman has an enduring appeal. What started out as a 2D comic strip in 1939 in the 27th edition of the Detective Comic has become one of the most recognizable superheroes in the ever-expanding cast of superheroes. He does not possess any superpowers but has to rely on his wealth, his intellect, and his fighting skills. He is one of the most commercially successful superheroes and one of the most iconic characters in popular culture. The image has been licensed around the world and there is batman merchandise available in every shape and form from t-shirts to action toys and more recently Lego figures and the Lego Batman Movie.
Prior to this, there was a live-action TV series in the 1960s with Adam West in the title role. Batman first came to cinema screens way back in 1943 and since then eight different actors have played the Dark Knight in the movies. He was played by Michael Keaton in the 1989 film simply named Batman. Keaton went on to play him again in Batman Returns (1992) and is set to appear in two new movies in 2023. The role was taken up by Christian Bale in The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005 – 2012). He has also appeared in multiple animated movies that had a theatrical release. Other actors who have played the part or voiced the character include Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson.
