Huawei P30 Price in UAE 2020

Huawei’s P30 has the same processor as the P30 Pro and the photos it takes are comparable to those taken by the Pro. But unlike the latter, it is equipped with a headphone jack. And it costs 200 euros less: 799 euros against 999 euros. If it has similar photographic quality with a design of its own, is there a reason to opt for the Pro?

It ultimately depends on your tastes and the budget you’re willing to spend on a phone. The 6.1-inch P30 is smaller than the 6.47-inch Pro, so big-handed people who prefer phones like the iPhone XS Max and Pixel 3 XL may feel less comfortable. The P30 also doesn’t have the Pro’s curved-edged screen, wireless charging or waterproofing. But it compensates with a headphone jack and it is resistant to splashing.

But the P30 is not only competing with the Pro. Samsung’s new Galaxy S10e and S10 phones also have a lot to worry about. Except in this case, the choice is clearer: you care more about your phone’s camera or its performance? So the P30 is for you.

If you’re a tech fan ready to break your wallet for the best smartphone on the market, you’ll find that the P30 makes some compromises too. But if the idea of spending four digits on a phone seems outlier, the Huawei P30 is a premium choice. And if photography is your main focus, you’ll have the best configuration in its category at a lower price than the Samsung Galaxy S10.

The photo in pro mode

Since 2016, when Huawei partnered with Leica to produce one of the first dual-sensor phones, the P9, the Huawei brand has been synonymous with exceptional cameras. Three years later, the P30 Pro stunned observers with its quadruple sensor configuration. The P30 has “only” three sensors (and no 5X optical zoom, 3X “only”), but the photos it takes are almost identical to those of the P30 Pro. In other words, they are excellent.

Here’s the P30 configuration: a 40-megapixel photosensor, an ultra-wide-angle 16-megapixel and an 8-megapixel telephoto lens for close-ups. The P30 Pro has the same 40-megapixel main camera, but there’s also a 20-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and 8-megapixel periscopic lens. The P30 Pro also has a fourth lens, a flight time sensor that, depending on the brand, improves the depth of field.

The biggest difference between the cameras of the two smartphones is the perscopic lens of the P30 Pro. The P30 has a respectable 3x optical zoom, a 5x hybrid zoom and a 30x digital zoom. The P30 Pro, meanwhile, offers a 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid and 50x digital. In practice, this means that the image quality that the P30 can produce with a 3x zoom, the Pro produces it with a 5x zoom.

That’s why we think you’ll notice little difference in your daily use. The zoom of the P30 Pro is technically amazing, but we can count on both hands the number of times we used the zoom of a smartphone to take a picture last year. Unless you’re already using your smartphone’s camera zoom regularly, keep in mind that the biggest photographic difference between the P30 and the Pro is the one you may never get away with.

Apart from that, the photos taken by the P30 Pro are slightly sharper, but not sharper enough for you to notice the difference in anything other than a side-by-side comparison. The Pro has been praised for its night mode which manages to illuminate even the darkest scenes. The P30 does just as well in this area.

Both also take great photos in portrait mode. However, we feel quite clearly the post-processing retouching that remains perfectable. The portraits taken on iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy S10e at similar price seem more realistic and they have our preference. It’s certainly a matter of taste because many of the people we’ve drawn with the P30 often prefer the P30 result.

The P30 and Pro have the same 32-megapixel selfie camera. It can take portrait photos and uses a flash for dark environments. But don’t be dazzled by all these megapixels. This front-facing camera is above average, but still below that of the iPhone XS.

Performance and autonomy

The Huawei P30, like the Pro, is equipped with a Kirin 980 processor. It’s exactly the same processor as last year’s Mate20 Pro, as well as the Honor View20. Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Google Pixel 3 equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and 855 processors respectively, the P30s perform less well on benchmarks. But this is one of those cases where theoretical tests do not reflect practical reality. Indeed, P30s are more than powerful enough to accomplish any task. Games like Asphalt 9: Legends and PUBG with maximum graphics level were perfectly fluid.

But there is always a problem that plagues Huawei smartphones: EMUI. This is the brand’s software layer that customizes Android 9 Pie. By default, it integrates a whole range of applications that are often useless or duplicate those of Google without bringing any real added value.

Some aesthetic aspects of the operating system have been updated. But screen savers are a few years old now, which is noticeable to anyone who has owned a recent Huawei phone. You can activate an app drawer in the settings and download a custom launcher to fine-tune the OS’s ergonomics. None of this is prohibitive, but it’s these little details that make EMUI always a step below the pure version of Android or even the new One UI overlay at Samsung.

Part of this inconvenience is offset by the record battery life. During our endurance test, the P30 lasted 21:31 minutes, a few hours longer than the S10 range.

In addition to these solid foundations, the P30 is richly equipped. Like the Mate20 Pro before it, it has both facial recognition and a fingerprint scanner in the screen. The fast charging function is spectacular. We were able to restore 50% of the battery in just under half an hour. Unlike the Pro, there is no wireless charging. But, and this deserves to be repeated, there is a headphone jack.

A bewitching design

Huawei knows how to design a smartphone that attracts attention. Last year’s P20 Pro inaugurated a pearly Twilight colour that fused turquoise and purple and was a big hit. The P30 range is almost entirely pearly.

Like the Pro, the P30 is available in five colours: aurora blue, crystal, amber sunrise, pearl white and black. Where the two smartphones differ, it is in the image they return. The Pro is more luxurious, really premium. It’s partly because of its curved-edged screen, which some people love and others hate. But it also has a weight in the hand that inspires this feeling of quality. It wouldn’t be fair to say that the P30 is cheap, but, after taking control of a P30 Pro and an iPhone XS, it may say that it doesn’t look as robust.

Facing competition

In our opinion, the P30’s biggest competitor is not the Pro but the Google Pixel 3. The Pixel range also earned a solid reputation for its photographic qualities, especially in low light. The night mode of the P30 always outperforms that of the Pixel 3, and between zoom and ultra-wide shots, the functions are more complete. Personally, we prefer portraits of the Google smartphone. And the strength of the Pixel 3 is its pure Android OS. However, the P30 has thinner screen edges and an upper diagonal (6.1 vs. 5.5 inches).

Huawei P30 vs Samsung Galaxy S10e/S10

The P30 is a little cheaper than the Galaxy S10e and costs 110 euros less than the S10. The Samsung S10e and S10 have fantastic cameras and a better OS than the P30. But they just can’t compete when it comes to night photography. The S10e, while comparable in price, also has a smaller display (5.8 inches versus 6.1 inches).

Both smartphones have the same powerful processor, excellent cameras and the same main weakness, namely a low-gloss operating system. If the P30 is already at the top of what you’d like to spend on a phone, the P30 Pro doesn’t have any features that could make you crack. However, if you spend the difference, you will have a smartphone that, between its large curved screen and its two-way wireless charging, is much more luxurious.
