Is a MacBook Really a Worthwhile Investment?
Much like the Android vs. Apple debate, there are people that sit firmly on either side of the fence when it comes to Team MacBook vs. Team Windows. The truth is that both operating systems have some great features and benefits, so it makes sense that people have different likes and dislikes but with MacBook’s having a higher price tag there are still many people that feel as though they can’t justify the extra cost. That said, ask any avid MacBook fan about their machine and they’ll tell you it does absolutely everything they need to it perfectly and therefore will never deviate from Apple machines should they be given the choice.
Do I Need a MacBook?
You could argue for or against this – whilst some will state that a MacBook is an absolute necessity there are others that feel a machine that requires that level of investment is simply not worth it. Whether you plan on buying a new laptop for work, gaming, social media, or even just to use the best online casinos, it’s good to know whether the newest MacBooks are worth the price.
One of the things you need to do before you decide whether or not a MacBook is right for you is to decide what you need from your computer and what capabilities you want it to have. There are definitely some industries that benefit from the abilities of a Mac, but then you have to weigh up the extra price tag too! By taking time to consider exactly what you need from a machine before you commit to what you are going to buy you are able to step back and do some research, which can help when it comes to making sure that you buy the right machine. It is easy to get carried away by the brand name, or the hype of a new release being available but looking at specifications and how this matches what you need is always going to be the best way to shop for a computer and a new MacBook is no exception.
Computer Capabilities
Mac users will usually tell you that they feel their machine performs better than a PC, but this doesn’t have to be the case. Lots of the performance will depend on what you have invested in and the capabilities of the machine. Apple makes both their own software and hardware, which means that they are designed to work together – which could be an argument for them working better and giving you better performance, but that is mostly a matter of opinion.
Whilst the look of a machine is a personal preference most people agree that the look and feel of macOS is more streamlined than Windows. Realistically the look of Windows hasn’t changed massively in many years so an updated operating system such as macOS could take the lead – however, Windows is much more customisable, so it really is a matter of opinion.
Whatever you are using your machine for, the one thing you want is confidence that it is going to be safe and secure- especially if you are sharing personal or sensitive data online. Whilst there are security products in place for both PC and Mac as a general rule cyber criminals tend to target Windows over macOS, which could be an argument for Mac being a more secure machine. However, it is worth keeping in mind that Apple controls both their hardware and software which means that they are in charge of security updates, which tend to be less frequent than the update options for PC security software.
If you are looking for an off-the-shelf machine then both can be suitable, you simply have to research which is the best option out of the possibilities and go from there. However, if you are looking for a machine that you are able to upgrade and customise then a windows PC is usually a more sensible choice. With so many hardware components and different manufacturers available there is no end to the possibilities when it comes to customising a PC and upgrading it to suit your needs. There are much fewer opportunities for easy upgrades with a MacBook, so buying one that matches your exact needs is a must.
Which has the Best Lifespan?
There are many different elements that can affect the lifespan of any computer so it is hard to give a definitive answer as to which would last longer. As a general rule people consider Mac to have a longer, more reliable lifespan however with the fact that you are able to replace and repair components within a PC if you are someone with computer knowledge you could very well extend the life of your PC without too much hassle. As a general rule, a PC with no upgrades would expect to last on average 3 to 5 years, whereas a MacBook would be between 5 and 8 years.
Which One is For Me?
With any computer, smart device or electronic gadget, there is no real right or wrong answer as to what you should buy. Instead, it is important that you research what is available and what matches your needs. With so many options on the market, you will absolutely be able to find something that perfectly matches your needs, but you need to go on capabilities and features rather than just assuming a particular brand name is going to do the job for you.
Spend some time considering what the main use of your machine is going to be & what features you need it to have. Once you have this information and an idea of what sort of budget you want to spend you should easily be able to find a PC or Mac option that suits you. Make sure you look at what other people with similar computer requirements use & what their reviews have been on their machine choice and whether they feel it is something that is suitable or if they would have made a different choice.
